Factors Affecting Readiness for Change in Government Organizations: A Meta-Synthesis Study

Abstract

Complex environmental conditions make change in organizations inevitable. Successful organizations are those that have the ability to anticipate environmental change and can provide the mechanisms needed to adapt to it. Implementing change does not happen easily, and research has shown that many change initiatives have failed because organizations are not ready for it. Therefore, the successful implementation of change depends on obtaining the necessary preparations for it. The purpose of this study is qualitative analysis of the results of research conducted in the field of change readiness based on the method of qualitative meta- synthesis. The main question in this study is to identify the factors affecting the readiness for change in public sector organizations. The study is developmental based on purpose, analytical- descriptive based on method and qualitative based on the nature of the data. In this study, after an initial search and finding and refining resources related to the subject of change readiness with the critical evaluation method from 7338 primary sources, 140 sources were selected and using content analysis, basic concepts and pervasive form factors and indicators affecting readiness for change were identified and classified. Also, by combining the dimensions of the three-pronged model of Mirzaei Ahranjani and Sarlak (2005), Holt et al., (2007) the identified components are organized in five dimensions of content, structure, context, group and individual dynamics.
