Identifying and Ranking Factors Affecting Organizational Toxic Climate as Antecedents of Organizational Toxic Culture

Abstract

This study aimed to identify and rank factors effecting organizational toxic climate as antecedent of creating organizational toxic culture. This study is applied according to purpose and descriptive survey according to data gathering method. Statistical population consist of staff and experts of one of the disciplinary agencies in Fars province. By studying organizational climate literature, factors affecting creation of toxic climate were found.  By using SPSS software, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and t-test, it was found that identified factors are applied in the organization. Which include toxic leadership, toxic interpersonal relations, toxic occupational structure, toxic reward system and the toxic physical structure. After identifying these factors, they were ranked. For this purpose, a paired comparison questionnaire was distributed among 10 experts of the organizations. After collecting the questionnaires, these factors were ranked using Expert Choice software and AHP technique. According to the results, toxic leadership with the weight of 0.591 is in the first place, toxic Interpersonal relations with the weight of 0.202 is in the second place, toxic occupational structure with the weight of 0.107 is in the third place, toxic reward system with the weight of 0.07 is in the fourth place, and toxic physical structure with the weight of 0.03 is in the fifth place in terms of importance. All components associated with each factor were also ranked separately and as a whole based on their total weight.
